I was fortunate to document this historic moment back on May 16th, 2013, when the first batch of new brewing equipment arrived at Magnolia Brewing’s new facility in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco. Their original brewery in the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, which still operates, couldn’t make enough beer to keep up with demand.
The new brewery houses a 30 barrel brew system, which is three times the size of their Haight Street brewery, and should easily meet consumer demand for the time being. Their equipment was made at Craftwerk Brewing Systems in Michigan, not far from where I grew up.
The first of two eighteen wheelers rolled up at 6am. The rigging company in charge of making sure they got inside without a scratch was waiting. It took about six hours to move five tanks into place.
